Day 24 180 lbs

I’ll warn you up front that it’s going to be a short one!  Another long day at the treatment mill but, as always, the day was a gift, I am blessed, I am sober, I am loved and God is in control.  I started with my normal 5:30 wake up call and was strapped down by 8:20 for my radiation treatment.  Next was an ice down and aloe vera in the lobby and in for my weekly checkup with Carlene and Dr. Dagan.  Official weight 180 lbs only 5 down from the beginning and my blood pressure finally settled down to 120/78.  Both were pleased with my progress and were happy with my proactive and willing approach.  My friend Susie shared that eating with plastic utensils would help reduce some of the metallic taste and Carlene added to try to microwave in ceramic or plastic, avoid food in cans and to keep it up.  Dr. Gutherie put me on omeprezole for my indigestion and I am hungry again! Today I tried cottage cheese, watermelon, another bean burrito with a host of other add ins.  Its not all great, but I can get it down.  Dr. Dagan is very pleased with the treatment results, he let me know that the tumor on the base of the tongue is practically gone and that the lymph nodes are shrinking nicely.  I wasn’t aware that they probably will not be gone by the end of treatment, but the treatment provided continues to increasingly work, peeking at 3 to 3 1/2 weeks, he is very optimistic about a complete cure.  And on a fun side, I got to spend some time with my new friends from Britain, Glenn and Debbie.  What a delightful couple, Glenn has neck cancer and is going through a 3 step treatment, but they feel as positive and blessed as me.  They are exploring Jacksonville, enjoying each others company and getting to know each other again.  They make me smile.  Next up was a trip to the pharmacy and home by one for lunch, icing coating and a 2 1/2 hour nap!  I ended the day writing the club newsletter, eating dinner, and spending some time with you.

I have so many things that I want to share tonight but it is already 9:30 and I’m sinking2017-11-08 16.21.59 fast. I will leave you with 2 cards that I got today.  One is from our friends Liz and Ruth and the other is from Jan and her family and the Kennerts they made me smile and filled me with gratitude for all of you and your caring. We will chat again tomorrow!

  1. Glad the omeprazole is working for you. I have been on it for many years. Skip just one day and my stomach wants to eat my esophagus!

Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing your progress. It gives your friends less to worry about each day we read your blog post.
