Day 23 – 16 Radiations and 2 Chemos to Go!

Day 23 180 lbs

Look at those numbers guys!  They are falling like rain.  It was a loooong day.  Up at 5:30, breakfast, and radiation at 8.  Ice down while I drove to see Dr. Guthrie and get chemo.  Put on aloe vera in the parking lot and head up to let them take some blood for testing before my appointment.  Dr. Gutherie gave me a physical and was complementary that I have only lost a total of 5 pounds and was in great shape – thank you all for holding me accountable in your own way.  I rolled out of the exam room pumped with pride and the feeling that I was on top of the world.  From his exam room a short stroll to the “Chemo Lounge,” where we had a full crowd and the staff was hoppin’.  Kelly finally settled down with me and looked at the arm we had been using so far and decided we had to switch.  The chemotherapy has begun to affect the

veins irritating them.  I noticed them Saturday and showed them to Kat and Jan but they have gotten better each day.  They got red again during the treatment even though it went in on the other side, I am so glad that we caught it.  I had an ensure for lunch and caught up on some sleep while they filled me up.  About the time I woke up I got a call from the proton center asking me to come see the swallowing and speech therapist when I got done.  So back at the center by one and saw Patricia.  She was blown away that I was in my fourth week and doing so well.  She asked to see me late next week as a follow-up but didn’t think that I was going to need anything.  No exercises or therapy needed!  Keep up the prayers my friends they are working!

I got on the road  by 3, stopped by Taco Bell and picked up a soft taco and 2 bean burritos.  I ate the soft taco on the way home and had a cookie in milk while I iced down again at home.  A nap, then catching up with my buddy Tina for a bit before Kat got home.  That one is into another project and God I love her passion and enthusiasm.  It makes my heart so happy to see the look in her eye as she changes clothes and heads out to the shop.  While she was out I feasted on a bean burrito with cheese and sour cream!   There is a God and He smiled on me again today and for that I am eternally grateful.

  1. Don, you may be the next spokesman for Taco Bell! “If their burritos can taste this good to someone undergoing radiation and chemo, just think how good they will taste to you!!”

Glad you are doing so well and are finding foods you can enjoy. Keep up the good work!
